Tubing Head Wellhead Accessories: Wearing Bushing, Pressure Testing/Removal Tools & Back Pressure Valves
Wearing Bushing
The wearing bushing is installed in the casing head or casing head cross during drilling and workover operations to protect the casing head and casing head cross from wear caused by the drill string. It is delivered into the well via a test tool connected to the drill pipe, and securely locked in place using flange top wire locks on the casing head or casing head cross.
Pressure Testing & Removal Tool
This dual-function standard tool reduces the number of required components. It can be installed inside the casing head or casing head cross. During drilling or workover operations, drill pipe can pass through the tool regardless of whether drilling tools are in the borehole, allowing pressure testing of the BOP stack and manifold. The tool can then be reversed to insert or remove the wearing bushing.
Back Pressure Valve & Installation Tools
Back pressure valves are available in one-way and two-way configurations:
- The one-way back pressure valve prevents downhole pressure from flowing upward while allowing fluid circulation downward.
- The two-way back pressure valve is required when pressure testing the Christmas tree above the tubing hanger.
Both types feature a special short-tooth trapezoidal thread, offering high strength, resistance to galling and long service life. When used with the back pressure valve installation/removal tool, the valves can be quickly and safely installed or retrieved through the Christmas tree, enabling efficient downhole pressure control.
