The core function of the shoot pin assembly :
1. Quick connection and locking of drill string
During the process of connecting the top drive to the stand or drilling, the shoot pin assembly inserts the shaft pin into the preset hole of the drill string joint through hydraulic drive to achieve a rigid connection between the drill string and the top drive main shaft, ensuring the effective transmission of torque (up to 40kN·m) and axial force (≥500T). Compared with traditional rotary drilling, the shooter pin locking can reduce the make-up and break-out operation time by 90%.
2. Back-marking and anti-drilling function
When the drill string is stuck, the shoot pin assembly can remove the jam by continuously rotating and pulling the drill string (back-marking action) while maintaining the circulating drilling fluid. Its fast response characteristics (lock/unlock switching ≤2 seconds) significantly reduce the time for handling stuck drill accidents.
3. Dynamic sealing under high pressure environment
The multi-pass sealing design maintains sealing performance during the reciprocating motion of the shooter pin to prevent high-pressure drilling fluid from entering the transmission components. For example, the primary seal can withstand an instantaneous pressure shock of ≥50MPa, and the secondary seal serves as redundant protection.
4. Safety guarantee and fault redundancy
The mechanical locking and sensor monitoring of the shoot pin assembly form a double safety guarantee. When the hydraulic system is abnormal (such as a sudden drop in pressure), the spring locking mechanism can maintain the shoot pin locked state to avoid accidents where the drill string falls off.
